Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving, start from the nearest main road to the Nyabarongo River area. Head towards Muhanga Town using the main road (RN1) which connects to the southern regions of Rwanda. Once you reach Muhanga, follow the signs for Muhanga Dam, which is the local name for Kucyinamba-Muhanga. The dam is located approximately 5 km from the town center. Keep an eye out for local signage indicating 'Muhanga Dam' as you approach. The drive should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Kucyinamba-Muhanga by public transport, take a bus or a shared taxi from Kigali to Muhanga. The buses to Muhanga leave from the Nyabugogo Bus Station in Kigali. The fare is typically around RWF 1,500 to RWF 2,000 (approximately $1.50 to $2) per person. Once you arrive in Muhanga, look for a motorcycle taxi (known locally as 'moto') to take you directly to Muhanga Dam. The moto ride should cost around RWF 500 to RWF 1,000 (about $0.50 to $1) and will take about 10 minutes.

• Walking

  If you are already in the vicinity of Muhanga and prefer to walk, you can walk to Kucyinamba-Muhanga from the town center. From the main market in Muhanga, head southwest on the main road. Continue straight for about 5 km until you reach the dam. Walking may take approximately 1 to 1.5 hours, so plan accordingly and wear comfortable shoes.
