History of Kraljevo

Kraljevo, located in central Serbia, has a rich history that dates back to ancient times. Originally known as Rudo Polje, the first mention of the settlement appeared in medieval documents. The area was strategically significant due to its location along important trade routes connecting the Adriatic Sea to the interior of the Balkans.
In the early 13th century, the region was under the rule of King Stefan the First-Crowned, the first Serbian King to be crowned by the Pope. This massacre is one of the darkest chapters in the town's history and is commemorated by a monument in Memorial Park.
After World War II, Kraljevo underwent significant reconstruction and development. The town grew rapidly, becoming an important industrial center in socialist Yugoslavia.
