History of Strbske Pleso

A Glacial Lake in the Tatras

Štrbské Pleso occupies a basin formed by Ice Age glacial activity in the High Tatras. The lake is part of a wider landscape shaped by moving ice, retreating glaciers, erosion and the accumulation of mountain sediments. These processes created the steep-sided valleys, rocky ridges and tarns that define the surrounding Tatra environment.
