History of Postojna

Prehistoric Karst Occupation

The limestone caves and sheltered valleys around Postojna have attracted human activity since prehistoric times. Cave sites in the wider karst region preserve evidence of early occupation, while the landscape’s springs, forests and natural shelters helped shape settlement long before the modern town emerged.
