Travel Guide to Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum and East Sioux Falls Historic Site

Getting There

• Car

  From Big Sioux Recreation Area, head east on SD-34 E for about 12 miles. You will reach the intersection with I-229 N. Merge onto I-229 N and continue for approximately 5 miles. Take exit 8 for 26th St. Turn right onto 26th St and follow it for about 2 miles. Turn left onto S Perry Pl, and the Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum will be on your right at 1900 S Perry Pl, Sioux Falls, SD 57110. There is no admission fee for the arboretum.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, you will need to first take a bus from the nearest bus stop in Big Sioux Recreation Area to the Sioux Falls city center. You can use the Sioux Area Metro service. Once you arrive at the city center, transfer to Route 2, which goes towards 26th St. Get off at the stop near 26th St and S Perry Pl, then walk approximately 0.3 miles south along S Perry Pl to reach Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum. Be sure to check the Sioux Area Metro schedule for bus timings as they may vary.

• Bicycle

  For those traveling by bicycle, follow the same route as cars. Start by heading east on SD-34 E, then turn onto I-229 N. Bicycles are not allowed on the interstate, so you may need to find local roads that parallel I-229. Once you reach 26th St, turn left and continue until you reach S Perry Pl. From there, bike south on S Perry Pl for about 0.5 miles to arrive at the arboretum. Make sure to wear a helmet and be cautious of traffic.
