Start at the center of Custer, typically near the Custer County Courthouse. Head southeast on Sheridan Avenue (SD-87). Continue on Sheridan Avenue until you reach the intersection with SD-16. Turn left onto SD-16 and proceed for about 1.5 miles.

After 1.5 miles, look for the entrance to Custer State Park on your right. This will be marked with park signage. Follow the road into the park, and you will soon reach the Sylvan Lake Entrance Gate.
