Public Transit
From downtown Rapid City, head to the main bus terminal located at 1234 6th St. Take the 'Black Hills Stagecoach' bus service which operates routes towards Custer. Purchase a ticket from the kiosk or the driver, and board the bus heading to Custer. The bus will take you along SD-34. Stay on the bus for approximately 40 minutes until you reach the Custer town stop. Once you arrive in Custer, disembark at the Custer County Courthouse.

After getting off at the Custer County Courthouse, walk southwest on Mt. Rushmore Rd towards SD-87. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with SD-87. Turn left onto SD-87. Follow the road for about 5 miles. You will pass by beautiful scenery and possibly some wildlife. Mount Rushmore Inspiration will be on your right side, marked by informational signs. The walk may take around 1.5 to 2 hours, so ensure you have water and wear comfortable shoes.
