Walking
From the Mount Rushmore National Memorial, exit the park and head south on SD-244 towards US-16A. Continue walking until you reach the intersection with US-16A. Turn left onto US-16A and continue for approximately 12 miles. You will see signs for Custer State Park Visitor Center. The Visitor Center will be on your right.

If you prefer using public transportation, catch the local shuttle service that runs from Mount Rushmore to Custer. Check the shuttle schedule at the visitor center or local hotels. Get off at the Custer State Park stop, which is the closest to the Visitor Center. From there, it’s a short walk to the Visitor Center entrance.

For those who enjoy biking, rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Mount Rushmore. Head south from the park entrance on SD-244, and then take US-16A. The ride is scenic, but be cautious as the road can have some traffic. After about 12 miles, you'll arrive at the Custer State Park Visitor Center on your right.
