Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start at the village of Espot, which is a common base for visitors to Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici National Park. From Espot, take the N-260 road towards the national park entrance. Once you reach the park, look for signs indicating the route to 'Presa de l'Estany Negre'. The drive will take approximately 30 minutes on winding mountain roads. Park your car at the designated parking area near the Estany de Sant Maurici, and from there, you will begin your hike.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from the nearest major city, such as Lleida, to Espot. The bus service operates several times a day, but check the schedule in advance to ensure you arrive in time to continue your journey to the national park. Once in Espot, you can either walk to the park entrance, which is about 4 km away, or take a local taxi that can take you directly to the park entrance. After entering the park, follow the marked trails towards Presa de l'Estany Negre. The hike from the park entrance to the Presa will take approximately 2-3 hours, depending on your pace.

• Hiking

  After parking your car or arriving via public transport, the hike to Presa de l'Estany Negre begins from the Estany de Sant Maurici area. Follow the marked trails leading to the presas. The trail is well-maintained, but it can be steep in some sections. Ensure you have adequate hiking gear, water, and snacks for the journey. The total hike is approximately 6 km round trip and will take around 2-3 hours to complete, depending on your fitness level.
