Getting There

Car
If you're driving from a location in the Dry Zone, such as Anuradhapura, take the A9 highway south towards Dambulla. Continue on the A9 for approximately 70 kilometers until you reach the junction with the A1 highway. Turn right onto the A1 and continue towards Colombo. As you drive, you will pass through beautiful landscapes typical of the Dry Zone. After about 150 kilometers, look for signs towards Kandy and take the exit onto the A26. Follow this road for about 40 kilometers until you reach Kandy. From Kandy, you can either continue your journey to other parts of Srí Lanka or explore the city, known for its cultural heritage.

Public Transportation - Bus
To travel by bus from Anuradhapura to Srí Lanka, head to the Anuradhapura Central Bus Station. Look for buses heading to Dambulla, which depart frequently. The bus ride will take about 1.5 hours and cost around 150 LKR. Once in Dambulla, transfer to a bus heading towards Colombo and ask the conductor to drop you off at Kandy. This leg will take approximately another 2 hours and cost around 200 LKR. Upon arriving in Kandy, you can explore the city or connect to other transportation options to reach your final destination.

If you prefer to travel by train, start your journey from Anuradhapura Railway Station. Board a train heading towards Colombo, which will take you through scenic views of the Dry Zone. The journey takes about 3 hours and costs approximately 300 LKR. Disembark at Kandy Railway Station, where you can either stay in Kandy or continue your exploration of Srí Lanka. Make sure to check the train schedule in advance, as service frequency may vary.
