Car
If you are driving, start from the nearest city, Kandy. Head east on the A26 highway towards Hunnasgiriya. Follow the road for about 30 kilometers until you reach the turn-off for the Knuckles Mountain Range at the Hunnasgiriya junction. Turn left onto the B66 road and continue for approximately 15 kilometers, passing through small villages and beautiful landscapes. You will reach a checkpoint at the entrance to the Knuckles Conservation Area where you may need to pay a small fee (around LKR 200) to enter. Continue on the B66 until you reach the main trailhead area for various trekking routes in the Knuckles range.
Public Transportation
To reach Knuckles Mountain Range by public transport, take a bus from Kandy to Hunnasgiriya. Buses leave regularly from the Kandy central bus station and the fare is approximately LKR 50. Upon arrival in Hunnasgiriya, you can hire a tuk-tuk to the Knuckles Mountain Range entrance, which will cost around LKR 200-300. Ask the driver to take you to the trailhead. Once you reach the entrance, be prepared to pay a small fee (about LKR 200) at the checkpoint.
Trekking
Once you have entered the Knuckles Conservation Area, you will find several trekking routes to explore. The most popular trails are well marked. Make sure to carry enough water and snacks, as there are limited facilities in the area. For a guided experience, you can hire a local guide at the entrance who can lead you on the trails for around LKR 3000-5000 depending on the duration of the trek.
