Getting There

Car
From the center of Matara, head east on Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha. Continue straight for about 1.5 km until you reach a fork in the road. Take the left fork onto the road leading to Thotamuna. After about 1 km, you will see signs for Nilawala Estuary on your right. Turn right and follow the narrow road leading to the estuary. There is limited parking available near the entrance.

From Matara Bus Station, take a local bus heading towards Thotamuna, which should cost around LKR 20-30. The bus ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Get off at the Thotamuna bus stop. From there, walk about 500 meters east along the main road until you reach Nilawala Estuary. Keep an eye out for directional signs along the way.
