Walking
From Matara Bus Station, head east on Matara Road (Galle Road) towards the city center. Continue walking until you reach the junction with the Galle Road. Turn right onto Galle Road and walk for about 1 km until you reach the entrance of the Aparekka area. Look for signs leading to the Ellakanda Wewa. Continue walking along the road, and after approximately 1.5 km, you will see local signage indicating the direction to Ellakanda Tank Sluice. Follow these signs for another 500 meters until you arrive at the sluice gate.
Tuk-Tuk
From your location in Matara, find a nearby tuk-tuk stand or flag down a passing tuk-tuk. Tell the driver that you want to go to 'Ellakanda Tank Sluice' or show them the address: 'XHGV+9MR, Ellakanda Wewa, Aparekka'. The ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The driver will take you through local roads, and you can enjoy the scenery along the way. Once you arrive at the sluice, ensure you confirm with the driver that you are at the correct location.
Bicycle
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local rental shops in Matara. Start at Matara Bus Station and head towards Galle Road. Cycle east along Galle Road for about 1 km before turning right into the Aparekka area. Continue straight for about 1.5 km, and keep an eye out for signs directing you to Ellakanda Wewa. Follow the road for another 500 meters until you reach the Ellakanda Tank Sluice. This route will offer you a chance to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
