Experience Nilwella Beach

Getting There

  • Walking

    Start at Matara Bus Station. Exit the station and head south on the main road, Galle Road (A2 Highway). Continue walking straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the Hikkaduwa Junction. At the junction, turn left onto the Nilwella Road. Follow this road for approximately 3 kilometers. As you get closer to Nilwella, look for signs directing you to Nilwella Beach. The beach will be on your right side, and you’ll find several entrances to access the beach.

  • Tuk-Tuk

    From any location in Matara, find a tuk-tuk by either hailing one on the street or using a local ride-hailing app. Tell the driver you want to go to Nilwella Beach. The driver will take you along Galle Road (A2 Highway) and then turn onto Nilwella Road. The journey should take around 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. The driver can drop you off at one of the entrances to the beach.

  • Bicycle

    If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from a local shop in Matara. Start at the Matara Bus Station and cycle south on Galle Road (A2 Highway). Continue for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach Hikkaduwa Junction, then turn left onto Nilwella Road. Follow this road for about 3 kilometers. The beach will be on your right, and you can park your bicycle near one of the beach entrances.
