Tuk-Tuk
From anywhere in Matara, you can easily find a tuk-tuk waiting at the roadside. Simply tell the driver 'Unawatuna' and agree on a fare before you start your journey. The ride will take approximately 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. The tuk-tuk will take you directly to the beach area of Unawatuna, where you can enjoy the sand and surf.
Public Bus
Head to the Matara bus station, which is centrally located. Look for buses heading towards Galle, and specifically ask for one that stops at Unawatuna. The bus ride should take around 30 minutes. Once you reach Unawatuna, get off at the main bus stop. From there, you can walk towards the beach, which is just a short distance away.
Walking
If you are feeling adventurous and want to walk, you can head out from Matara towards Unawatuna. Start from the Matara Clock Tower and walk along the main road (Galle Road) heading north. It's about a 6-7 km walk, so be prepared for a good trek. Enjoy the views along the way, and once you see signs for Unawatuna, follow them to the beach.
