Getting there

Bus

From Kandy city center, head to the Kandy Bus Station located near the Kandy Lake. Look for buses heading to Nuwara Eliya; they usually have 'Nuwara Eliya' displayed on the front. The journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Upon arrival at Nuwara Eliya, you will be dropped off near the city center. From there, ask locals for directions to Lake Gregory, which is about a 10-minute walk. Head southeast on the main road, passing by the market until you reach the lake.

Train

Make your way to the Kandy Railway Station, which is a short walk from the city center. Purchase a ticket for a train to Nuwara Eliya (the closest station is Nanu Oya). Trains typically run several times a day, so check the timetable for departure times. The train journey offers beautiful scenic views and takes about 3 hours. Once you arrive at Nanu Oya station, hire a tuk-tuk or a taxi to take you to Lake Gregory, which is about 10 kilometers away and should take around 20 minutes.

Tuk-Tuk

If you prefer a more direct route from Kandy to Lake Gregory, you can hire a tuk-tuk. Simply ask your hotel or a local to arrange one for you. The ride will take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours depending on traffic conditions. Enjoy the ride through the beautiful Sri Lankan countryside. The driver will know how to get to Lake Gregory, but you can show them the destination on a map or say 'Lake Gregory' to ensure they understand.
