If you're traveling by car, start from the main entrance of Udawalawe National Park. Drive along the Udawalawe-Maharagama Road (A8) heading towards Thanamalvila. After approximately 10 kilometers, keep an eye out for the signs directing you to The Udawalawa Dam. Turn onto Thanamalvila Road, and continue for about 5 kilometers. You will find the dam on your left side, identifiable by its large water body and surrounding scenic landscape. Parking is available nearby.

To reach The Udawalawa Dam using public transportation, take a bus from Udawalawe town towards Thanamalvila. Buses frequently depart from the bus station in Udawalawe and the fare is generally around 50-100 LKR ($0.25 - $0.50). Once you arrive at the nearest bus stop on Thanamalvila Road, it is about a 1-kilometer walk to reach the dam. Follow the road signs towards The Udawalawa Dam, and you will reach your destination in approximately 15 minutes. Ensure to check the bus schedules for return trips.
