Getting There

  • Car

    From Udawalawe National Park, head northeast on the A4 highway towards Wellawaya. Continue for approximately 25 kilometers until you reach the junction at Wellawaya. Turn left onto the A2 highway towards Buttala. Continue on the A2 for about 15 kilometers until you reach the town of Kataragama. Look for signs directing you to Yala National Park. The entrance to Yala National Park is located at No81, Sella Road, Kataragama 91400. The entire drive will take around 1 hour, depending on traffic.

  • Public Transportation

    Start at Udawalawe National Park and take a local bus from Udawalawe to Wellawaya. Buses run frequently and the fare is quite affordable, usually around 50 LKR. After arriving at Wellawaya, transfer to a bus heading towards Kataragama. This leg of the journey will cost approximately 150 LKR and takes about 1 to 1.5 hours. Once in Kataragama, you can either take a tuk-tuk or walk to the entrance of Yala National Park located at No81, Sella Road, Kataragama 91400, which is about 5 kilometers away.
