Getting there

Car

From the Western Province, you can take the A1 highway heading north towards Kurunegala. Drive for about 70 kilometers until you reach the town of Kurunegala. From there, follow the signs to the A6 road, which will take you to Dambulla. Continue on the A6 for approximately 40 kilometers until you arrive in Dambulla. Once in Dambulla, take the turn onto the A10 road towards Sigiriya. After about 20 kilometers, you will reach Sigiriya. Expect to pay for fuel and possible tolls along the way.

Public Bus

Start by heading to the main bus terminal in your locality. Board a bus heading to Dambulla; the fare will usually be around 150-200 LKR. The ride will take approximately 2-3 hours. Once you reach Dambulla, transfer to a bus heading to Sigiriya. This leg of the journey will cost about 50-100 LKR and take around 30-40 minutes. Buses run frequently, so you shouldn’t have to wait long. Make sure to check the current timetable as it can vary.

Taxi or Ride-Sharing

For a more comfortable and faster option, consider hiring a taxi or using a ride-sharing app. From any location in the Western Province, simply request a ride to Sigiriya. The fare will depend on your starting point but expect to pay between 5000-8000 LKR for the trip. This option allows for flexibility in travel time and comfort, with the journey taking approximately 2-3 hours depending on traffic.
