If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Kandy. Take the A26 highway towards Gampola. After approximately 15 kilometers, you will reach Gampola. Continue on the A26 until you reach the town of Nuwara Eliya, which is about 45 kilometers from Gampola. Once you are in Nuwara Eliya, look for the road signs directing you towards Hawagala. The last segment of the journey is a scenic drive along a well-maintained road. You can park your car in a designated area near the base of the mountain.

For those using public transportation, take a bus from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. Buses run frequently, with tickets costing around 200 LKR. The journey takes approximately 2 to 3 hours. Once you arrive in Nuwara Eliya, you can either take a tuk-tuk (which typically costs around 500 LKR) or a shared taxi to reach the base of Hawagala. The drivers are familiar with the area and can take you directly to the starting point of the hike.
