Getting There

Car
Start your journey from the entrance of Yala National Park. Head north on the A2 highway towards Hambantota. Continue on this road for approximately 34 kilometers until you reach the town of Tissamaharama. From Tissamaharama, take the exit for the A14 road towards Anuradhapura. Stay on the A14 for about 63 kilometers, passing through landmarks such as Wellawaya and Monaragala. Keep an eye out for the signage directing you to Wilpattu National Park which is located on your left. Enter the park through the main entrance and ensure you have pre-booked your tickets as there is an entrance fee that varies depending on your nationality.

Public Transportation
From Yala National Park, you will need to travel back to Tissamaharama to catch a bus. Take a local bus from the Yala area to Tissamaharama, which usually takes about 30 minutes. Once in Tissamaharama, board a bus heading to Anuradhapura. The bus ride to Anuradhapura takes roughly 2 hours. Upon arrival in Anuradhapura, you can find a bus heading towards Wilpattu National Park. Make sure to ask the driver to drop you off at the park entrance. Note that public transportation schedules may vary, so it’s advisable to check the latest timings and availability.

If you prefer a more direct method, consider hiring a taxi or using a ride-sharing service from Yala National Park to Wilpattu National Park. This option will provide a comfortable journey without the need for transfers. The journey should take approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic.
