Construction of Åre Kabinbana began in February 1975, with a temporary transport line hauling materials to the peak. By June, the towering steel supports stood ready, and that winter, massive cables were strung across the 2900-meter span. Inaugurated on May 6, 1976, it remains Sweden's only cable car, engineered to conquer 853 meters of vertical rise—the steepest single drop in Scandinavia.
