Friluftsmuseet Hägnan began as a local initiative to preserve northern Sweden’s vernacular buildings and everyday material culture; the museum’s formation in the early 20th century brought together houses relocated from surrounding countryside to create a continuous row‑village model typical of Norrbotten. Over decades the site expanded and was reorganised to show chronological courtyard scenes: a croft from the 1780s, a prosperous Storgård (main farm) from the 1880s and a Peri‑Hanscha farm representing the 1920s, plus a country store illustrating life in the 1940s.
