A lake shaped by ice and industry

Ågelsjön occupies a shallow basin left by retreating ice sheets after the last glaciation and sits modestly in the Kvillinge landscape near Åby. Its shoreline alternates between reed-fringed shallows and wooded slopes; the lake’s character is formed by this interplay of open water and sheltering woodland, and by a landscape long used and shaped by people for fishing, milling and ironworking.
