Where the medieval town met the river

Storbron occupies the narrow point where Örebro first grew up around a ford across the Svartån; that shallow crossing helped establish trade routes and the early town nucleus. Over centuries the ford became a timber and later masonry bridge at or near this location, and the name Storbron—literally the ‘big bridge’ on Storgatan—reflects its long role as a principal east–west link in the centre of Örebro.
