Tracing the Legends of Storsjöodjuret

Getting There

• Public Transport

  Start at the Östersund bus station (Östersunds busstation). Take bus number 640 towards Krokom. The bus will take approximately 30 minutes to reach Krokom. Once you arrive at Krokom, disembark at the Krokom center stop (Krokom centrum). From there, head northeast on Storgatan towards Krokomsvägen. After about 500 meters, you will reach a junction. At the junction, take a left onto Krokomsvägen (Route 87). Continue for about 1.5 kilometers until you see the signs for Fotspår efter Storsjöodjuret. Follow the marked path to the site.

• Bicycle

  Rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Östersund. Start at the city center and head toward Storgatan, then follow the signs towards Krokom. The cycle path will lead you along the scenic route by the lake. The distance to Krokom is approximately 10 kilometers. Follow the cycle path until you reach Krokom. Once in Krokom, head towards the Krokomsvägen and continue on the main road until you reach the signs for Fotspår efter Storsjöodjuret.

• Walking

  If you're feeling adventurous and want to walk, start at Östersund city center. Head towards the south along Storgatan, which will turn into Route 87. The walk is approximately 10 kilometers and will take around 2 hours. Follow the road signs towards Krokom. Once you reach Krokom, look for the signs leading to Fotspår efter Storsjöodjuret, which is located about 1 kilometer from the center of Krokom.
