Stendörren, meaning 'Stone Door,' derives its name from the narrow strait between Aspnäset peninsula and Krampö island, a historic passage documented in the 13th-century Navigato Danica as a gateway to the open Baltic Sea. This 923-hectare reserve, formed in 1972, encompasses 738 hectares of open water alongside rugged land, preserving a mosaic of untouched biotopes from lush shore meadows to barren rockscapes etched by Ice Age glaciers.
