Car
If you are traveling by car, start by entering Vaxholm into your GPS. From central Uppland, take the E18 highway towards Stockholm. After approximately 30 km, take exit 165 towards Vaxholm. Follow the signs for Vaxholm town, which will lead you along Route 274. Once you arrive in Vaxholm, park your car at one of the public parking areas near the harbor. The fortress is located on an island just a short boat ride away.

Public Transportation (Train + Ferry)
To reach Vaxholm Fortress using public transportation, take a train from Uppsala Central Station to Stockholm. The train ride takes about 40 minutes. Once you arrive at Stockholm's central station, transfer to the bus or tram that goes to 'Strömkajen.' From Strömkajen, board the ferry to Vaxholm. The ferry ride takes approximately 50 minutes and offers beautiful views of the archipelago. Upon arriving in Vaxholm, walk towards the harbor and take a short boat ride to Vaxholm Fortress. Note that the ferry ticket costs around 60 SEK one way.

Public Transportation (Bus)
Another option is taking a bus from Stockholm to Vaxholm. From Stockholm, go to the Cityterminalen bus station, where you can catch a bus to Vaxholm. The bus ride takes about an hour. Once you arrive at Vaxholm bus terminal, follow the signs towards the harbor and take a short boat ride to Vaxholm Fortress. The bus ticket costs approximately 70 SEK.
