Brigadmuseum was conceived as an experiential museum where objects are meant to be touched, climbed into and tried out rather than kept behind glass. The layout alternates compact indoor galleries with an open inner courtyard that houses an impressive collection of military vehicles. Exhibits are arranged to be approachable and often interactive — from knot‑tying and radio sets to driving simulators — so the museum reads as a lived environment rather than a static display.

How the Cold War looks in everyday life

The permanent presentation frames Sweden’s military organisation at brigade level alongside the civil society that developed during the same era. Scenes and scenarios cover post‑1945 reconstruction through the tensions of the 1970s and 1980s, with curated vignettes such as a mid‑century kitchen and a classroom that illustrate the domestic side of modernisation and welfare politics alongside weapons, uniforms and vehicles.

Exhibits, vehicles and scale

The museum occupies roughly 1,200 square metres of exhibition space and spreads some of its material outdoors, where tracked vehicles, jeeps and armoured cars form an informal play area for curious visitors. Inside, displays range from small objects and audiovisual installations to larger artifacts that demonstrate logistics and organisation at brigade level — the combination gives a sense of both the machinery and the human routines that kept Sweden’s defence system functioning.
