In recent decades the district has become a place of creative reinvention: large former industrial halls now host studios, small manufacturers, cultural organisations and occasional exhibitions, while information boards and museum material interpret the area’s role in regional industry. The presence of working creative enterprises alongside conserved industrial architecture gives the area a mixed, lived-in atmosphere rather than a museumlike stillness.

A visit to Kvarnbyn is as much about sound and texture as sight: the constant murmur of water, the echo of footsteps on stone, the warm patina of brick and metal, and the changing light as it filters through the narrow gorge. Architectural details reward a slower pace—iron brackets, stepped gables and cobbled service areas—while vantage points above the falls frame the industrial skyline against the river valley beyond.
