Getting There

• Train

  From Grindelwald, take the train to Engelberg. Start by walking to the Grindelwald train station, which is located in the center of the village. Look for the signs directing you to the train platforms. Purchase a ticket to Engelberg at the ticket counter or use the ticket machines. Once you have your ticket, board the train heading to Interlaken Ost, and change trains there to catch the train towards Engelberg. The total journey takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes. After arriving at Engelberg station, exit the station and walk towards the main road. Engelberg Abbey is located approximately 1.2 kilometers away from the station, which will take about 15 minutes to walk.

• Bus

  While in Grindelwald, you may also consider taking a bus to Engelberg. First, make your way to the Grindelwald bus station, which is adjacent to the train station. Look for the bus service that connects to Engelberg. You will need to check the schedule, as buses may not run frequently. Once on the bus, enjoy the scenic ride, which takes approximately 45 minutes. Upon arrival at Engelberg, you can follow the signs to Engelberg Abbey, which is approximately a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.

• Hiking

  For the more adventurous tourists, hiking from Grindelwald to Engelberg is a possibility, although it is quite challenging. Start at the Grindelwald train station and take the trail leading towards the First mountain. Follow the marked hiking paths that will take you to the higher elevations and eventually towards Engelberg. This hike requires a good level of fitness and can take several hours, so prepare accordingly with proper gear, food, and water. Make sure to check the weather conditions before embarking on this hike.
