Car
If you are driving from the nearest city, you will likely start your journey in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. Take the A-373 highway towards the border with Tajikistan. Once you cross the border, continue onto the M-34 road heading towards the Zarafshan Valley. Follow the signs to the town of Zarafshan. From Zarafshan, take the road towards Panjakent and look for signs to the Chimtarga base camp. It is approximately a 1.5-hour drive from Zarafshan to the base camp.

Public Transportation
From Samarkand, take a shared taxi or a marshrutka (minibus) to the Zarafshan Valley. These leave frequently from the central bus station. The journey will take about 2-3 hours. Upon arrival in Zarafshan, you can take another shared taxi directly to the base camp for Chimtarga. This leg of the trip may take around 1 hour and the taxi fare should be negotiated beforehand, usually costing around 50,000 to 100,000 somoni (approx. $5-$10).
