Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, start from any point in the Kilimanjaro Region. Head towards Lushoto, which is approximately 100 kilometers from Moshi. Follow the signs for Lushoto, and as you enter the town, look for the signs directing you to the Irente Viewpoint. The final stretch is about 5 kilometers from the town center. Ensure you have a GPS or a map application, as the roads can be winding and hilly. There may be a small parking fee at the viewpoint, so keep some Tanzanian Shillings handy.
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, take a daladala (minibus) from Moshi to Lushoto. The journey takes about 2-3 hours and costs around 5,000-10,000 TZS. Upon reaching Lushoto, you can either take a taxi or walk to Irente Viewpoint, which is about 5 kilometers from the town center. If walking, follow the main road signs towards Irente, or ask locals for directions. Taxis are available and cost approximately 10,000-20,000 TZS for the short trip.
Guided Tour
Another option is to book a guided tour that includes transportation. Many tour companies in the Kilimanjaro Region offer packages that cover transportation to and from Irente Viewpoint, along with a guide who can provide insights about the area. Prices for these tours vary, so check with local providers for costs and inclusions.
