Getting There

  • Private Car

    From Mikumi National Park, take the A7 highway heading south. Continue on the A7 for approximately 100 kilometers until you reach the junction with the A14 road. Turn left onto the A14 and follow the signs towards Matambwe. Drive for about 40 kilometers, and you will arrive at Nyerere National Park. Ensure you have a map or GPS for navigation, as some road signs may be limited.

  • Public Transportation (Bus)

    To reach Nyerere National Park from Mikumi National Park by bus, first, take a daladala (local minibus) from Mikumi to Ifakara. Buses leave regularly from the Mikumi bus station. The fare should be around 3,000 TZS. Upon arrival in Ifakara, transfer to a bus heading to Matambwe. The cost for this leg is approximately 5,000 TZS. Once you reach Matambwe, you can hire a taxi or arrange for a local guide to take you into Nyerere National Park, which is about 15 kilometers away. Taxi fares may vary, so agree on a price beforehand, typically around 10,000 TZS.

  • Shared Taxi (Taxi-brousse)

    Alternatively, you can take a shared taxi, known locally as a taxi-brousse, from Mikumi to Ifakara. Shared taxis are usually quicker than buses, costing around 4,000 TZS. Once in Ifakara, follow the same procedure as the bus option to get to Matambwe and then arrange for transport to Nyerere National Park.
