Getting There

  • Walking

    Start your journey from the center of Moshi town. Head towards the main road, Uhuru Street. Walk along Uhuru Street until you reach the junction with Sokoine Road. Turn left onto Sokoine Road and continue walking straight for about 1 kilometer until you see the signs for Machame Road. Keep an eye out for local landmarks such as the Moshi Cooperative Union on your right as you walk. Once you reach the junction with Machame Road, turn right. Continue walking along Machame Road for approximately 10 kilometers. You will pass by local shops and small eateries along the way. Look for signs indicating the Machame Gate entrance. The entrance is located on the left side of the road. The Machame Gate is a popular starting point for climbers heading up Mount Kilimanjaro.

  • Public Transportation (Dala Dala)

    From the center of Moshi, walk to the Dala Dala station located near the central market. Look for Dala Dala heading towards Machame. Once you find one, pay the fare (usually around 1,000 TZS). The Dala Dala will take you along Machame Road. Inform the conductor that you want to get off at Machame Gate. The journey takes about 30-40 minutes depending on traffic. Once you reach Machame Gate, get off the Dala Dala and follow the signs to the entrance.

  • Bicycle Rental

    If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bicycle from one of the local shops in Moshi. Start your ride heading towards Uhuru Street, then follow the same route as if you were walking. Cycle along Sokoine Road, then turn onto Machame Road. Be cautious of traffic and ensure you have a map or GPS with you. The total cycling distance is approximately 10 kilometers, and it should take around 40-60 minutes depending on your speed and traffic conditions.
