Car
If you're starting from Moshi, head southeast on the A23 highway. After about 50 km, take the exit toward KIA/Arusha Road. Continue for approximately 20 km until you reach the junction with the B1 road. Turn left onto the B1 and follow it for about 30 km. Once you reach the town of Taveta, take the road toward Lake Chala. After approximately 10 km, you will see signs directing you to Lake Chala. Parking is available at the entrance.
Public Transportation
From Moshi, take a daladala (shared minibus) to Taveta. The journey takes about 2-3 hours. Once in Taveta, you can either hire a taxi or join a local matatu heading toward Lake Chala. The taxi ride from Taveta to Lake Chala will take about 15-20 minutes and will cost around 10,000 TZS. Alternatively, if you take a matatu, the fare is cheaper but may take longer due to multiple stops.
Walking
If you're staying near Lake Chala or have arrived by public transport, you may walk to the scenic viewpoints around the lake. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and carry water, as the terrain can be uneven. Follow the signs for designated walking paths to ensure safety.
Guided Tour
For a more organized experience, consider booking a guided tour from Moshi or Arusha. These tours typically include transportation, a guide, and sometimes meals. Prices can vary, but expect to pay around $50-$100 per person depending on the inclusions. This option is ideal for those who prefer a hassle-free experience.
