Getting There

Car
Start from Moshi town, which is a common entry point to the Western Zone. Head southwest on A23 towards Marangu. After approximately 30 minutes, take a left onto the B1 road towards Lushoto. Continue on this road for about 1.5 hours until you reach the town of Lushoto. From Lushoto, take a local road that leads towards the Usambara Mountains. Follow the signs to the Lushoto village and then to the trailhead leading to Furtwangler Glacier. This last stretch may require a 4x4 vehicle due to rough terrain. Be prepared for an additional 30-minute drive on unpaved roads. Ensure you have a map or GPS as this area can be tricky to navigate.

From Moshi town, take a daladala (shared minibus) heading towards Lushoto. This journey will take around 3 hours. Once you arrive in Lushoto, you can hire a local taxi or use a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to reach the last point before the trailhead to Furtwangler Glacier. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand. The ride may take another 30 minutes to an hour depending on road conditions.
