Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Bicycle
From the center of Zanzibar City, head southeast towards the main road (Nyerere Road). Turn left onto Nyerere Road and continue straight until you reach the roundabout. Take the second exit to stay on Nyerere Road, which will lead you towards Paje. Follow the road for approximately 50 km, enjoying the scenic views of the coastline. When you reach Paje, look for signs directing you to Paje Beach, which is easily accessible by bike.
Walking
If you're feeling adventurous and are located close to Paje, you can walk to the beach from the village. Start from the village center and head east towards the coastline. As you approach the beach, you'll see a wide sandy area – that's Paje Beach! The walk will take around 20-30 minutes depending on your starting point.
Public Transport (Dala Dala)
To get to Paje Beach from Stone Town, find a Dala Dala (local minibus) heading to Paje. You can catch one at the Dala Dala stand near the Old Fort (Ngome Kongwe) in Stone Town. The fare is usually around 2,000 TZS. The journey takes about 1-1.5 hours, depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Paje, walk towards the beach, which is a short distance from the Dala Dala stop.
Taxi
If you prefer a more direct route, you can take a local taxi from anywhere in Zanzibar City to Paje Beach. Simply ask your hotel or a local to help you arrange a taxi. The journey will take about 1 hour and the fare should be negotiated beforehand, typically around 30,000-50,000 TZS depending on your departure point. Be sure to ask the driver to drop you off at Paje Beach.
