Car
If you are starting from the Panther Junction Visitor Center, head southwest on the main park road (Hwy 385) for about 6 miles. Take a left onto Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. Continue on Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive for approximately 15 miles. You will encounter several scenic overlooks and points of interest along the way, so feel free to stop and enjoy the views. The drive ends at the Santa Elena Canyon overlook, where you can take in the stunning views of the canyon.

From the Chisos Basin area, head north on the Basin Road until you reach the main park road (Hwy 385). Turn right (south) onto Hwy 385 and drive for about 18 miles until you reach the junction for Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive. Turn left onto Ross Maxwell Scenic Drive and follow it for about 15 miles, enjoying the scenic views along the way. The scenic drive will lead you to various viewpoints, ending at Santa Elena Canyon.
