Getting There

• Songthaew

  From the Old City of Chiang Mai, head to the main road (Chang Klan Road) and look for a songthaew (red truck taxi) heading to Doi Saket. You can catch one near the Night Bazaar or any songthaew stop. Ask the driver to drop you off at the Mae Kuang Dam or at the intersection near the dam. The fare is usually around 30-50 THB depending on your negotiation skills.

• Public Bus

  Take the public bus from the Arcade Bus Station (located near the Old City). Board a bus heading towards Doi Saket. Once you arrive in Doi Saket, you will need to find a local songthaew or motorbike taxi to take you to Mae Kuang Dam. The bus fare to Doi Saket is about 20-30 THB. The bus ride can take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes.

• Motorbike Taxi

  If you're near the Old City, you can also hire a motorbike taxi directly to Mae Kuang Dam. Speak to a motorbike taxi driver at any main street corner. The fare should be around 150-200 THB. Make sure to agree on the price before you start your journey. The ride will take approximately 30 minutes.

• Bicycle Rental

  For the more adventurous, consider renting a bicycle. Many shops in the Old City offer rentals. Follow the road towards Doi Saket and then take Route 1006 towards Mae Kuang Dam. It is approximately a 20 km ride, so ensure you are prepared for the journey. Pack enough water and snacks, and be cautious of the traffic. The ride can take around 1.5 to 2 hours.
