From the Old City area of Chiang Mai, walk to the nearest Songthaew stop, which is usually at Thapae Gate. Board a Songthaew heading towards San Kamphaeng. Make sure to inform the driver that you want to get off at the Umbrella Making Centre in Ton Pao. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes, and you will be dropped off near the entrance of the Umbrella Making Centre located at 111/2 Moo 3, Borsang-Doi Saket Road.
