Travel Guide to Wat Doi Sapphanyu (Wat Nam Bo Tib)

Getting There

• Songthaew

  From the Old City or Nimmanhaemin area in Chiang Mai, head to a nearby Songthaew (red truck taxi) stop. You can find them on major roads or ask locals where the nearest stop is. Once in a Songthaew, inform the driver that you want to go to Wat Doi Sapphanyu (Wat Nam Bo Tib) in Mae Wang District. The ride will take approximately 30-40 minutes. The fare is around 40-60 THB per person, but confirm with the driver beforehand. The Songthaew will drop you off near the entrance of the temple. Be prepared to walk a short distance to reach the main temple area.

• Public Bus

  Take a public bus from the Arcade Bus Station in Chiang Mai towards Mae Wang. The bus leaves regularly and the journey will take about 1 hour. The ticket price is around 30 THB. Once you reach Mae Wang, ask the bus driver to drop you off at the nearest point to Wat Doi Sapphanyu. From there, you may have to take a short taxi or walk approximately 1-2 kilometers to the temple. Ensure you have the temple's address handy to help locals guide you.

• Bicycle Rental

  For the more adventurous, consider renting a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Chiang Mai. Head south towards the Mae Wang District, following the main roads (like Route 106). The ride is approximately 17 km and will take around 1-1.5 hours. Ensure you're comfortable cycling on roads with light traffic. Once you reach the area of Moo 6, Mooban Huai Niam, follow local signs or your GPS to find Wat Doi Sapphanyu. Remember to bring water and sun protection for the ride.

• Motorbike Rental

  If you're comfortable riding a motorbike, you can rent one in Chiang Mai. After renting, follow Route 106 heading south towards Mae Wang. The distance is about 17 km and will take roughly 30-40 minutes. Be sure to wear a helmet and follow local traffic rules. Once you reach the area of Moo 6, Mooban Huai Niam, look for signs directing you to Wat Doi Sapphanyu. Parking is usually available at the temple.
