Getting There
-
Songthaew
From the Old City, head to the main road (Sukhumvit Road). Look for a songthaew (red truck taxi) that is heading towards Doi Lo or Mae Wang. You can wave one down or wait at a designated songthaew stop. The fare is typically around 30-50 THB per person. Once you are on the songthaew, inform the driver that you are going to Mae Wang National Park. The journey will take about 1 to 1.5 hours, depending on traffic.
-
Tuk-Tuk
If you prefer a more private option, hire a tuk-tuk from your location in Chiang Mai. Negotiate the price beforehand; it should be around 600-800 THB for a round trip. The driver will take you directly to Mae Wang National Park. Make sure to agree on a time for your return trip.
-
Bicycle
For the adventurous, you can rent a bicycle from shops in the Old City. Head south towards the highway, then follow the signs to Doi Lo. The ride is approximately 35 km and can take about 2-3 hours depending on your cycling speed and the weather. Be sure to bring plenty of water and wear a helmet for safety.
-
Guided Tour
Consider booking a guided tour that includes transportation from Chiang Mai to Mae Wang National Park. Many travel agencies in the Old City offer full-day tours that include a visit to the park, lunch, and activities such as trekking or visiting waterfalls. This option typically provides a hassle-free experience and costs around 1,500-3,000 THB per person.
