Walking
If you are in the center of Sukhothai, head towards the Sukhothai Historical Park. Start at the entrance of the park located on Rte 12 (the main road). Walk straight into the park, passing the ticket booth on your left. Continue walking straight until you reach the first large monument, then turn right. After about 500 meters, you will see Wat Mahathat on your left, marked by its iconic prang (spire).
Bicycle
Rent a bicycle from one of the many rental shops in Sukhothai. From the rental shop, head east towards Rte 12. Turn left onto Rte 12 and cycle straight for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Sukhothai Historical Park. Once inside, follow the main path until you see Wat Mahathat on your left side, approximately 1 kilometer in.
Tuk-Tuk
Find a tuk-tuk at any major intersection in Sukhothai, and tell the driver you want to go to Wat Mahathat. The driver will take you directly to the entrance of the Sukhothai Historical Park. Once you arrive, you may need to walk a short distance inside the park to reach Wat Mahathat, which will be on your left after entering.
Local Bus
Take a local bus from the Sukhothai Bus Station towards the Sukhothai Historical Park. Buses run frequently throughout the day. Ask the bus driver to drop you off at the park entrance. Once you get off, enter the park and follow the main path; Wat Mahathat will be visible on your left after walking for about 10 minutes.
