Getting There
Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from the capital city, Nuku'alofa. Head south on Vuna Road, following the signs towards the Tongatapu coastline. Continue on this road for about 15 km until you reach the main ferry terminal located at the waterfront. Here, you will need to park your car in the designated parking area (note that parking fees may apply). After parking, head to the ferry terminal to purchase a ticket for the boat ride to Toketoke Island.
Public Transportation (Bus)
For those using public transportation, catch a bus from Nuku'alofa heading towards the southern coast. The buses are frequent and will take you to the ferry terminal. Make sure to ask the driver to stop at the ferry terminal, as some routes may not announce all stops. Once you arrive at the terminal, you can buy a ferry ticket to Toketoke Island. Be aware that bus fares are generally inexpensive, but it's good to have cash on hand.
Ferry
Upon arriving at the ferry terminal, purchase your ticket for the ferry to Toketoke Island. The ferry ride typically takes about 30 minutes. Be sure to check the schedule ahead of time as ferry times can vary. The cost of the ferry ride is around Tongan Paʻanga (TOP) 30 to 50, but confirm the latest pricing at the terminal.
Walking
Once you arrive at Toketoke Island, the best way to explore the area is by walking. There are no cars on the island, and the beautiful scenery can be best appreciated on foot. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes and bring plenty of water.
