Getting There

    From the center of Trabzon, take the D885 highway towards Maçka. After approximately 26 kilometers, you will see signs directing you to the Altındere Valley National Park. Follow these signs for about 10 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Sümela Monastery. There is a parking area near the entrance where you can park your car. Note that there is a small entrance fee for the park.

    From Trabzon, take a dolmuş (shared minibus) from the main bus station to Maçka. The journey takes about 30 minutes. Once in Maçka, you can catch another dolmuş that goes directly to Sümela Monastery. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will stop at the monastery. The total cost for the public transportation is typically around 20-30 Turkish Lira for both segments of the trip.

  • Walking from Parking Area

    After parking your car, you will need to walk approximately 1 kilometer to reach the Sümela Monastery. Follow the paved path that leads through the forest. The path is well-marked and takes about 15-20 minutes. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be uneven in some areas.
