Start at the Mary city center, near the Mary Hotel. Head southeast on Turkmenbashi Street towards the intersection with Gorky Street. Turn left onto Gorky Street and continue walking for about 1 kilometer until you reach the bus station. At the bus station, look for minibuses or shared taxis heading to Merv. These usually leave frequently. Inform the driver you want to go to Great Kyz Kala. The journey will take approximately 30 minutes. Once you arrive in Merv, you will need to walk about 1 kilometer to the actual site. Head northeast on M543 road until you see signs for Great Kyz Kala.

From the Mary city center, walk to the main bus station located near the bazaar. At the bus station, take a minibus (known locally as a 'marshrutka') heading to Merv. The fare is usually very affordable. Upon arriving in Merv, ask locals for directions to Great Kyz Kala or follow the signs. The site is about a 15-20 minute walk from the Merv bus station. You can also take a local taxi from the bus station if you prefer.
