Car
If you're traveling by car within Karamoja, start from the nearest major town, Moroto. Head southwest on the Moroto-Kotido Road for approximately 38 km until you reach the junction with the Kotido-Kabalega Road. Turn left onto this road and continue for about 30 km, passing through scenic landscapes. As you approach the location, look for signs leading to the Kabalega Heritage Site, which is located at coordinates 2.1912934, 32.3086382. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel, as fuel stations may be scarce in remote areas.
Public Transportation (Matatu)
To reach Kabalega Heritage Site using public transport, start at the Moroto bus park. Board a matatu (shared taxi) heading towards Kotido. The fare is typically around 10,000 UGX per person. Inform the driver that you want to stop at Kabalega Heritage Site. The ride takes approximately 1 hour. Once you arrive at the junction with the Kotido-Kabalega Road, you may need to walk or hire a local motorcycle taxi (boda boda) to cover the remaining 5 km to the site, which should cost around 5,000 UGX.
Motorcycle Taxi (Boda Boda)
If you're already in the vicinity of the Kabalega Heritage Site, you can hire a boda boda for a more direct route. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand; it usually ranges from 5,000 to 10,000 UGX depending on your starting point. The boda boda drivers are familiar with the area and can take you directly to the site.
