Getting there

Car

If you're driving from Soroti, head north on the Soroti-Katakwi Road (A109). Continue for about 45 kilometers until you reach the junction for the Unnamed Road. Turn left onto Unnamed Road and drive for approximately 15 kilometers. Look for road signs leading to Aruu Falls and follow them until you reach the parking area. Ensure to have a map or GPS device handy, as the road can be less marked. Parking might incur a small fee, typically around 2,000 UGX.

Public Transportation

To reach Aruu Falls via public transportation, take a matatu (shared taxi) from Soroti to Katakwi. The fare is usually around 5,000 UGX. Upon reaching Katakwi, you may need to hire a motorcycle taxi (boda-boda) to cover the remaining distance. Negotiate the fare for the boda-boda ride; it should cost approximately 10,000-15,000 UGX for the trip to Aruu Falls. Make sure to ask the boda-boda driver to take you to the falls directly, as they are familiar with the area.

Walking/Short Hike

Once you arrive at the parking area or the closest drop-off point (if using public transport), you may need to walk a short distance to the actual falls. The path is relatively straightforward but can be rugged, so wear comfortable shoes. It may take about 15-30 minutes of walking, depending on your pace. Follow any trail markers, and don’t hesitate to ask locals for guidance if you’re uncertain.
