Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from any location in Teso, start by heading towards the main highway that connects Teso to Kampala. Follow the signs leading you to the city center. Once you reach Kampala, navigate towards Speke Road. The Independence Monument is located at 8H8J+6M3, Speke Road. There are usually parking spaces available nearby, but be prepared to pay a small fee for parking, typically around 2,000-5,000 UGX.

• Public Transportation (Matatu)

  To reach the Independence Monument via public transportation, board a matatu (shared minibus) heading to Kampala from your location in Teso. The fare will depend on your starting point but expect to pay around 10,000-20,000 UGX. Once you arrive at the main bus terminal in Kampala, look for a matatu or taxi that goes to the city center or directly to Speke Road. Inform the driver of your destination to ensure you’re dropped off at the closest point to the monument. The walk from the drop-off point to the monument is usually about 10-15 minutes.

• Boda Boda (Motorbike Taxi)

  If you prefer a quicker option after arriving in Kampala, you can use boda bodas. After getting off at the bus terminal, you can negotiate a fare with a boda boda rider to take you directly to the Independence Monument. The fare should be around 3,000-10,000 UGX depending on the distance and time of day. Ensure you agree on the price before starting your journey.

• Walking

  If you are already in the central area of Kampala, you can walk to the Independence Monument. From the nearest major landmark, such as the Uganda National Museum, head southeast on Kimathi Avenue and continue onto Speke Road. The monument is a prominent landmark, so you should be able to see it as you approach. The walk will take you approximately 20-30 minutes.
